Constructed in the early 1900’s, the building originally served as a place for worship for the 2nd Congregational Church of Guelph. This structure was destroyed by fire in the late 1940’s and an apartment building was constructed on the site.
Purchased by Jack and Patricia Ing in 1979, the interior was completely gutted and converted into a residence for seniors and on December 8, 1980 the Norfolk Manor was founded. Designed to house up to 68 residents, the interior has undergone constant improvements with the latest being the conversion of the 4th floor lounge to a games room, redecorating of the 4th floor hallway and the addition of wall sconces to improve the lighting to complete the facelift.
David Ing has been involved in the family business on a full time basis since 1985 and in 1990 took over as the administrator, Managing Director of Norfolk Manor. He is recognized by ORCA, Canadian Hospital Association and the ONHA (Ontario Nursing Home Association) as a qualified health care administrator carrying on in the family tradition of providing quality care to our residents. David is currently President of Norfolk Manor Inc.
In 1996 Lisa Hipgrave (maiden name Lisa Ing) with an obvious connection and background in the family business, as well as being a trained Registered Nurse, formally joined the management team bringing her knowledge, experience and special touch to the daily operations. Lisa was promoted to Managing Director in 2023
Now in 2024 we are transitioning to a simpler model focusing on accommodations and meals.
